The Saggar Technique.
The Saggar Candle Holder is an art object that functions as a unique candle holder, hailing from the brand Ila Ceramica, a long time favorite of By Madre's.
In the search for deep and interesting surfaces, but straying away from complicated chemicals or toxic minerals, these pieces are the result of the Saggar technique, where humble materials such as coffee grounds, reclaimed sawdust, branches and leaves work their magic, along with oxygen and fire, resulting in a variety of hues from blacks to oranges that make this piece completely unique.
This One of a Kind candleholder is completely handmade. The design studio is led by Camila Apez, who through ceramics, primarily but not exclusively through manual construction, she seeks to investigate the intersection and collaboration with the natural world, while recovering and exalting ancestral feminine archetypes, the functional aspect of the pieces, as well as their relationship with space and the human body, resulting in objects that have utilitarian possibilities while maintaining a sculptural touch.
Like with any hand-made object, variations in color and shape may occur and do so from burn to burn. No two objects are exactly the same, making them art.
