From "Magdalena Canasta" Collection.

By Madre's "Small Magdalena Canasta (Basket) Bag" is a hand-woven & lacquered palm basket, made out of a traditional weaving technique called cesteria in By Madre's bespoke color-palette.

The bag can be styled with or without the four accompanying color-matched monochromatic pompoms for a more fun or sleek look, removable to provide the wearer with versatility. Wear year-round, from the wedding to the beach. Made using a palm called "Iraca", native to Colombia, the technique is highly resistant and durable. While the pattern is curated, the painting style was developed by and is completely unique to By Madre, who is presenting cesteria in a completely new original way.

Cesteria has never been seen like this in Colombia. All of By Madre's Cesteria products are  hand-made in by artisans that are part of the Wayuu tribe. This product is cultural denomination certified and made by collectives of women who pass down this tradition from generation to generation. Purchasing this product allows these incredible artisans to continue to pass down and preserve this tradition for years to come.

Please note, like any hand-made luxury item, natural variances in color or textutre of the palm are natural and to be expected. Slight color transfer shouldn't, but may occur. This is a sign of an authentic artisanal object and should be celebrated.

The basket is unlined on purpose, so the wearer can admire the clean & beautiful weaving technique. The wearer may consider using the accompanying blurred check cotton bag as a basket liner, as it was intended.
