This set of 3 completely unique and versatile glass bulbs are art objects made by inter-disciplinary artist, Valeria Florescano. Inspired by the School Venetian Glass-blowing, but rather working with the nuances, unique properties, philosophy of Mexican glass. Historically, glass production has gone in two ways–one in the EU and North America, where there has been an emphasis on perfection, thin-ness, color-less, and industrialized production in glass.

However, in Mexico's long tradition of glass-blowing, however, the opposite is the case. Thickness, color, bubbles, texture, organic shape, and nuance–as the material begets–is preferred and celebrated. Florescano abides by the Mexican philosophy of glass-making, as does By Madre.  Florescano's intention in designing these pieces was about inverting the idea of the flower vase. In her words, "The 'Bulbs' function like glass flowers and therefore become objects of contemplation. The design especially highlights the long and funny stem of the Cala Lily. The 'Bulbs' become uni-flower vases, created especially  for flowers with spongy stems like Cala's or Agapanthus, which thanks to the natural properties, their stems function as a cork, avoiding that water spills out.

This design also permits the 'Bulbs' to be used in many positions: vertical, horizontal–for example, positioned on a table without water, they transform into sculptures. Also, when they are used alone, without, or outside of a vase, the 'bulbs' play with gravity. Stems of flowers can be joined and tied together and the 'bulbs' maintain their balance, forming an almost architectural structure."
